So... McCain has finally announced his running mate. I have to admit, I did NOT see this coming. I was seriously terrified that Mitt Romney would be his pick... but it appears that McCain has gone above and beyond with his selection of Sarah Palin, governor of Alaska, as his running mate.
Interesting strategy. Trying to be female-friendly, I presume.
According to CNN, Palin supports drilling in the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge. She's a member of the NRA. She was runner-up for Miss Alaska in 1984. (A gun-totin' beauty queen. How quaint.) She's staunchly pro-life, supports capital punishment, and belongs to feminists for life.

Somehow, "Feminists for Life" doesn't equate a woman-friendly vice presidential candidate to me.
Let's see... she also opposes same-sex marriage. No surprise there. However, what was a little... interesting... to me, is that she claims to have several gay friends and wants to be responsive to concerns about discrimination (according to a 2007 article in the Anchorage Daily News). Seriously? How can you be responsive to discrimination when you are, in fact, perpetuating discrimination? The mind... it boggles...
So... if McCain wasn't scary enough for you, I do believe the Republican ticket has just evolved into a full-fledged nightmare.

Yes, somehow, it just got scarier than I ever thought. I was prepared for Romney, but THIS? No way.
So...basically she's a female version of GWB. Though...I'm not sure that GWB has won any beauty pageants...
oh! i just found out another interesting bit of information about this woman...
She doesn't support (and seems very against) explicit sex-education...
And her 17 year old daughter is 5 months pregnant.

i just heard that too!!! it's beyond insane to me that she can be against sex education even after her 17-year-old ends up pregnant.
YES! Clearly her daughter needed some sex education. What kills me about this is CAN YOU IMAGINE the fallout if Chelsea Clinton had gotten pregnant at 17? All we'd hear about is how the Clintons are immoral and their immorality infected their daughter. Instead, the religious right is praising Jesus about how she's a sinner who made a mistake but she's keeping the child and owning up to what she did. Uhh, so did Jamie-Lynn Spears, but I sure as hell don't want her mom to be VP.
yeah...everyone is all "yay she didn't abort her down syndrome baby" but...now she wants to run as VP and spend even less time with her family (of five children) than she already was. so...yay she's pro-life but what about her FAMILY LIFE?
i also heard that she and her husband were part of an alaskan organization to become independent or part of canada. yet now she wants to be VP of the states? hmm..
